NOWLA will push for initiatives that promote sustainable livelihood in the North Eastern region. This will among the other things include access to critical amenities like good roads, schools, hospitals, water systems, and essential services, as well as promoting economic diversification and livelihood opportunities.

Gender Equality and Women's Leadership

Gender equality and women’s leadership is among the guiding principles for NOWLA. The organization will also further promote gender-mainstreaming policies, laws, and programs that will eliminate the structural and social injustice issues experienced by women in the region.

Pastoralism, Climate change and Livelihood

Many communities in the North Eastern region are pastoralist. This is their way of life, their source of livelihood and their cultural identity. However, challenges such as limited resources, competition for pasture and water, and susceptibility to effects of climate change affects the pastoralist communities.

Northen Kenya Women Leadership Association (NoWLA)

The Northern Kenya Women Leaders Association (NOWLA) was established in 2024 with a bold and clear vision: to empower women leaders from the North Eastern region of Kenya and position them as key players in shaping the socio-economic and political landscape of the region. This region, historically marginalized and underdeveloped, faces persistent challenges such as poverty, gender inequality, limited infrastructure, and the effects of climate change. Despite these hurdles, the women of Northern Kenya have remained resilient and steadfast in their quest for meaningful change

Membership

Pioneer Members

This category is meant for founding members of NOWLA and those who have supported the organization from the onset. Pioneers are required to make an annual subscription of Kenyan shillings 100,000 and are expected to be very instrumental in charting the course of the organization.
Honorary Members:
Honorary Membership is reserved for those who have supported or made significant contribution to the socio-economic development of the North Eastern region or have supported NOWLA in its endeavours. In the case of honorary members, the subscription will vary as member appropriate.

Individuals, institutions and entities that have similar goals and vision of NOWLA and would like to be involved or support any of these programs or activities can apply for affiliate membership. Affiliate membership costs KES 75,000 paid annually as a subscription fee.

Young Aspiring Women Leaders

acknowledges the need to nature and empower the upcoming generation of women to take up leadership positions. This category is meant for women between the age of 18 and 35 in the North Eastern region who wish to be leaders. The annual subscription fee for this category is KES 30,000.

Corporate Members

To be a corporate member, one needs to be a private sector company, business, or an entity that wishes to support NOWLA’s agenda and join hands in the socio-economic development of the region. The annual subscription fee for corporate membership is KES 200,000. It should be noted that all the members, irrespective of the category, have a right to be involved in the activities of NOWLA, attend General Meetings and have a voice in the decision-making process of the organization. Members will also receive routine updates, newsletters, and invitations to special events arranged by NOWLA.
