Implementation Matrix
NOWLA recognizes that access to quality healthcare and education is crucial for the
overall development of the North Eastern region and the empowerment of the
communities. The organization will focus on promoting policies and programs that
increase health care access especially for the disabled, the elderly, mentally
challenged, women and children who are the most vulnerable.
The
organization will campaign for more funding to be allocated to construction of school
facilities, teacher professional development and any other projects that seek to
eliminate restrictive culture, poverty and geographical location that hinder children
from accessing education.
Equality in development is an important component that is incorporated in the
strategic framework of NOWLA. The Northern Kenya region has faced years of
marginalization.
NOWLA will strongly advocate for fair and equitable access to national resources. This
will include lobbying in order to ensure the region gets its fair share of development
resources, revenues from natural resources, and investment opportunities.
NOWLA will push for initiatives that promote sustainable livelihood in the North Eastern
region. This will among the other things include access to critical amenities like good
roads, schools, hospitals, water systems, and essential services, as well as promoting
economic diversification and livelihood opportunities.
NOWLA will prioritize economic opportunities to residents of the North Eastern region
and their social wellbeing. This includes programme and opportunities that are aimed
at uplifting and empowering the communities.
Gender equality and women’s leadership is among the guiding principles for NOWLA. The organization will also further promote gender-mainstreaming policies, laws, and programs that will eliminate the structural and social injustice issues experienced by women in the region. NOWLA will support capacity-building programs, mentorship opportunities, and platforms that will help women to take up leadership positions in political, economic, and social fields.
The objectives of the organization will be to educate the society on the impacts of climate change and encourage environmentally friendly practices. This involves lobbying for policies and measures that promote renewable energy, water, and land management for sustainability. NOWLA will also engage the local communities, government departments and environmental NGOs in the actualization of climate change adaptation measures such as drought tolerant crops, rain water harvesting and ecosystem rehabilitation. NOWLA will strive to foster sustainable pastoralism practices and other income generating activities in the region. This includes putting in place policies and programmes that enable pastoralist communities to access land for grazing, water and veterinary services.
